About Paul Thomas (Managing Director)
Prior to joining IPF in 2008 Paul spent the previous 10 years with Microsoft Corporation as part of their Anti-Piracy and Internet Safety Investigations Team for EMEA. Recruited as a European Investigator Paul rose to Head of Anti-Piracy Investigations for the region. He was instrumental in evolving the investigative program from v.1 to the current level of sophistication envied by competitors.
Notable achievements include leading investigations into the first and most important criminal convictions of counterfeiters in the UK for Microsoft (leading to lengthy prison sentences), helping launch the Worldwide Digital Integrity program, building out a Business Intelligence program and developing a Worldwide Test Purchase program.
Paul’s specialism has been in the field of developing a strategy using civil remedies to provide a return on investment for the client. This model has proven itself repeatedly generating millions of dollars for investment in a sustained AP Program.
Expanding into the field of cybercrime Paul has expertise in managing investigations into spam mail, phishing, typo squatting as well as other malicious threats including malware and spyware propagation
He holds an Advanced Certificate of Best Practice in Investigation
Previously Paul served as a Police Detective with the Hampshire Constabulary He was involved in the investigation of major crime before specialising in Intelligence.
Paul’s background in technology began in 1981 when he worked as a technician for IBM at their Research and Development laboratory in Winchester. Projects included developing printed circuit technology and photographic engineering
